One of my favorite meetups in Atlanta is the PyData meetup, monthly at General Assembly (a pretty nice venue in ponce city market). I try to goto a few meetups a month around town, and this is the only one I’ve been to that is consistently well organized, interesting, and relaxed. It’s less like a corporate conference talk, or undergrad lecture, and more collaborative, which after a full day of work is worth a lot for the brain.
The format has tended to be one longer keynote (about 30 minutes), followed by some audience Q&A (they call it a fireside chat), then a break followed by 3x5min lighting talks. None of the chunks are too long and it ends up flowing pretty nicely.
This past event, I gave a lightning talk about a project I’ve posted here a lot, git-pandas. Here are the slides, for those interested.
The next edition is this Wednesday, and I’ll be giving another lightning talk, this time on categorical encoding, so if you are in the Atlanta area, come out and chat. If not, I’m going to try to put together a recap of what was presented along with whatever slides I end up presenting later this week, so stay tuned.
